Intel has a challenge for you: Build innovative connected devices to improve our lives. From home automation to smart cities, technology is helping to improve our communities, healthcare, environment, and to bring positive change to the world around us. What will you build?

Maybe it’s a coffee maker that texts you when it’s done brewing, or a color matching bot that coordinates your outfit every morning. Too basic? Build smart TV remote that responds to voice control. Looking for social impact? How about a device that tracks in-home water usage? The possibilities are endless.

Whatever you can imagine, Intel wants you to build it with the Arduino 101 development board. With gesture support, Bluetooth connectivity, digital I/O, and Intel® Curie™ Module, you can create an IoT solution which can change people’s lives. To get things started, Intel will provide hardware for up to 150 teams with the best ideas; just submit your project concept during the Idea Phase -- before June 6th. You’ll get an Arduino 101 (branded Genuino 101 outside the US) plus a Grove Sensor Kit! If you already have an Arduino 101 board, you can start building right away.

Eligibility

This hackathon is open to:

  • Individuals (who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry)
  • Teams of eligible individuals
  • Organizations (up to 50 employees)

Employees of Intel, Devpost, and contractors currently under contract work for Intel or Devpost are not eligible.

Software partners and those receiving funding or assistance from Intel for application development are not eligible. Any application that is or was funded or compensated, partially or fully, by Intel for its development is not eligible for entry.

Requirements

Projects must be newly created during the competition submission period. Existing applications are not eligible for this competition.

Idea Round (May 4 - June 6): Submit your idea (including a wireframe or sketch of your build plan) by June 6th at 5:00PM ET to be considered for a free Arduino 101 and Grove Starter Kit! Already have an Arduino 101? Then you can start building right away!

Build Round (May 4 - July 28): Build an IoT project with Arduino 101. Intel will send an Arduino 101 and the Grove Sensor Kit to participants who are selected in the Ideas Round. Even if you don’t qualify for a free kit, you can still participate using your own Arduino 101.

Submit the following assets during the Build Round:

  1. A demo video (hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku). Your video should include a demo of your working application via a step-by-step visual demo.
  2. Images. Please submit at least one image/screenshot of your application.
  3. A way to access your working application for judging and testing by providing a sketch file (for Arduino) and a wiring diagram.
